AJ Auxerre's attempt to sign Anthony Martial this summer has failed. The French striker, a free agent since July 6, did not respond positively to the contract offer presented by the Burgundy club.

Laurent Koscielny confirmed having reviewed the profile of the former Manchester United player. "We received 400 to 450 proposals, including Anthony Martial, yes," the sporting director said. "But on our side, we had very specific ideas about the profiles we were looking for." Martial, who scored one goal in 20 appearances for his last club, Monterrey, therefore remained outside Auxerre's specific plans.

The 30-year-old is expected to announce his next club this week during the September international break. Other clubs such as Malaga, CSKA Moscow, and Krasnodar are also said to be in contact with him. A move elsewhere would mark the seventh club of his career.

For Auxerre, this lack of response leaves an attacking need unaddressed as the season is underway. The club currently sits 15th in Ligue 1 with 3 points from four games. Their attack, led by Cameron Archer's two goals, will need to be effective in the next home fixture against Stade Brestois 29, who are 7th in the table. The team's last competitive victory was on May 17 against Lille (2-0). Since then, the form has been positive with three wins, one draw, and one loss from the last five official matches.
