AJ Auxerre was founded on December 29, 1905, the date of the prefecture's declaration receipt. The icaunais club, born under the impulse of Abbé Deschamps, has crossed more than a century of French football. Aja 1905, the name carried by the online supporters' community, embodies this will to let nothing fade from the great seasons of the Burgundy club. The first football match of AJA's team took place on November 5, 1905, on a Vaux road terrain, against the « Rupins de Bourgogne » of Migennes. Charles Simon, co-founder of the French Interfederal Committee, attended this match. The association did not then have football as its main activity: gymnastics came first, and the first football team was born in 1906. AJA is part of the 48 founding teams that disputed the first Coupe de France. Abbé Deschamps is not a simple symbolic founder. He found the first terrain, near the Tournelle bridge (also called Ocrerie), from which AJA obtained a locative enjoyment. The AJA's headquarters was located at 4, Saint-Étienne Square. His epistolary relationship with Charles Simon, a French football figure who died in combat in 1915, anchors the club in a network that exceeds Auxerre. The Coupe de France was created in 1917 in memory of Simon, which indirectly links AJA to the origins of the most popular football competition in the hexagonal.
