AJ Auxerre have completed the signing of 22-year-old defender Christ Makosso from Luton Town for over €2m. The Congolese international joins on a four-year deal until 2030, giving manager Will Still another defensive option ahead of the new Ligue 1 season.
Who is Christ Makosso?
Christ Makosso arrives at Auxerre with a well-travelled European profile. Developed at Sochaux, he later played for RWDM in Belgium's top flight between January and December 2024. Loaned to Oxford United in England's Championship from January to June 2026, he gained valuable experience before moving to Luton Town. A full Congo international, he has already earned five caps for the Leopards.
Why this signing matters for Auxerre
Will Still is building a complete squad from day one. Makosso joins a growing list of arrivals, including Danny Namaso whose permanent deal was activated until 2029. Auxerre also added goalkeeper Mamadou Diop as third choice and re-signed Romain Faivre on loan. Arthur Piedfort, Sékou Fofana and Xiangxin Wei have also joined in recent days.
With zero goals scored and zero conceded so far this season, Auxerre sit top of Ligue 1. Their next match sees them travel to Nice on 20 February 2027, a crucial away trip in the early stages of the campaign.
