Marie Mahé, Media365 : published on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 14h40 In an interview with L'Equipe, Christophe Pélissier spoke about his sacking from Auxerre, despite the team's survival in Ligue 1. Auxerre had been a concern until the end. On Sunday, May 17, in the 34th and final matchday of Ligue 1, AJA had beaten Lille 0-2. This had allowed them to officially secure their survival. Despite this good end to the season, marked by a series of three consecutive wins to finish, Auxerre did not retain their coach, who had been in place for almost four years. In fact, Christophe Pélissier was sacked, while he was also said to be in conflict with David Wantier, the Auxerre sports director. On Monday, the 60-year-old technician accepted to come back on this sacking, in an interview with L'Equipe. The coach had notably confessed never being able to explain himself with the owner of Auxerre. ## Pélissier: "I estimate that I have met my objectives" Christophe Pélissier was unable to hide his disappointment, after the end of his adventure in Bourgogne: "I estimate that I have met my objectives, namely the first: Ligue 1 survival. Last year, we finished 10th as a promoted team without ever being in danger, then we secured survival this year despite a difficult calendar in the second half of the season. In the second half of the season, we were 9th. Once we had digested the departures and injuries, we made a good second half of the season." Before continuing: "The second objective was to develop young players, a field where AJA was losing ground. There was the emergence of Kevin Danois, Rudy Matondo and others who are also starting to arrive, whom I made play. There is also the development of other players. Lassine Sinayoko, for example, was just a starter in Ligue 2 when I arrived. The third objective was to restore proximity with the public and I believe that we see well the enthusiasm around the team and the support of the supporters towards me." A support that did not suffice to convince the local leaders to keep him.
