AJ Auxerre have officially terminated the contract of winger Eros Maddy on Thursday, September 3rd. The move comes as the Burgundy club, sitting bottom of the table, looks to reshape its squad after a difficult start to the new Ligue 1 campaign.

The departure was announced by the club on its official website. Maddy had one year remaining on his deal with AJA. "Arriving at AJA in the summer of 2023, Eros Maddy played 18 matches with the first team and was part of the group that won the Ligue 2 BKT championship in 2024," the club stated. "After a loan spell at Stade Lavallois last season, AJA and Eros reached an agreement to end their shared adventure."

Eros Maddy ultimately made only a minor impact on the AJ Auxerre first-team squad. Signed in 2023, the player totalled just 18 appearances in the white and blue shirt. His most notable contribution was being part of the group that secured the Ligue 2 title in 2024, guaranteeing the club's return to the top flight. To gain playing time, he was loaned out last season to Stade Lavallois, also in Ligue 2. His return this summer did not lead to a clearer path to minutes, resulting in this mutual agreement to part ways.

This administrative decision comes at a tricky time for AJA. The club is currently last in the Ligue 1 standings with zero points from two matchdays, on a run of two consecutive losses. The team has conceded eight goals while scoring only three, resulting in a negative five goal difference. These results leave Auxerre six points behind the leaders, AS Monaco, before the league resumes.

Attention now turns to the league restart, with an important home match against OGC Nice on Saturday, September 12th. Nice, currently in 17th place, will be a direct rival in the battle against relegation. This game represents an immediate opportunity for AJA to earn their first points of the season and climb out of the bottom spot. The schedule for upcoming matches is available on our fixtures page. A win could provide a vital spark for the group.

The end of the transfer window is also busy elsewhere in the French top division. AS Monaco have confirmed the loan without an option to buy of their German defender Thilo Kehrer to Ajax Amsterdam for the 2026-2027 season. The Principality club praised the player, noting that "during his first two seasons in the Red & White shirt, he contributed to the two Ligue 1 podiums achieved by AS Monaco, meaning qualification for the Champions League". To balance the books, Monaco hopes to finalise the departures of Lamine Camara, who is close to Chelsea, and Folarin Balogun, in talks with Everton. AJ Auxerre, for its part, turns the page on the Maddy chapter and focuses on its next test at the Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps.
