Auxerre secured a valuable home win against Stade Brestois 29 on Sunday 20 September, coming from behind to claim a 2-1 victory in Ligue 1's fifth matchday. William Still's side had to overturn an early deficit to record a second consecutive win.

William Still named a starting eleven with Moustapha Diop in goal, shielded by a back three of Axel Tuanzebe, Christ Makosso and Cyril Akpa. The midfield featured Kévin Danois, Fredrik Oppegård and Arthur Piedfort, while the attack was led by Danny Namaso, Cameron Archer and Remy Labeau Lascary.

Brest took the lead in the 23rd minute. Joris Chotard found Pathé Mboup, who beat Diop with a precise finish. Auxerre remained threatening and found an equaliser immediately after the restart. In the 46th minute, Danny Namaso set up Cameron Archer, who levelled with a curled shot.

The match remained balanced, with Christ Makosso shown a yellow card in the 73rd minute and Kenny Lala for Brest in the 82nd. The decisive moment came soon after. In the 83rd minute, an Auxerre cross was turned into his own net by Brest defender Raphaël Le Guen, handing the Burgundians the winning advantage.

William Still then made several changes, introducing Romain Faivre and Naouirou Ahamada at half-time, then Rayan Mandengue and Pierre Ekwah late on to see out the game. Auxerre dominated possession (52%) and chances (11 shots), fully deserving the three points.

The key man: Cameron Archer

English striker Cameron Archer was on target again, scoring his third goal of the season in just three appearances. Having been decisive against Nice the previous week, he confirms his status as an essential scorer for the Auxerre 2026 squad.

This win takes Auxerre to six points and lifts them to 10th place in the Ligue 1 standings. The squad now heads into the international break with confidence before a tough away trip to face 5th-placed Rennes on 11 October. The full schedule of upcoming fixtures can be found on our fixtures page.
