AJ Auxerre have strengthened their backroom staff with the appointment of Samba Diawara as assistant coach. The club confirmed the move in an official statement on Tuesday, following the closure of the transfer window.
The club stated, "AJ Auxerre is pleased to announce the arrival of Samba Diawara in the technical staff as assistant coach." They added that Diawara replaces Jean-Alain Boumsong in the staff, "whom the club thanks for his commitment."
This reinforcement comes during a period of recovery for the team. After a tough start to the season with three defeats and eleven goals conceded, Auxerre strung together consecutive wins against Nice (1-0) and Brest (2-1). These results propelled the club into the top ten of the league, where they currently sit 10th with six points.
Samba Diawara brings valuable experience from his time working with Will Still at Stade de Reims, where he also served as interim head coach twice. His integration aims to solidify the positive momentum built by the recent wins and the summer signings of Cameron Archer and Axel Tuanzebe.
Archer, on loan from Southampton, has scored three goals in three matches, making him the team's top scorer this season. His latest goal came in the 2-1 win over Brest on September 20. The club now heads into the international break before a tough away trip to face Rennes on October 11.
The team will have to manage without Assane Dioussé, Marvin Senaya, and Telli Siwe upon the league's return. The full squad list is available on our squad page.
