The municipal council of Auxerre meets on Friday, June 5, 2026, to discuss the first adjustments to the 2026 budget. Mathieu Debain must implement his first breaks with Crescent Marault's mandate. The observation phase is over. Elected in March, the new team led by Mayor Mathieu Debain (DVC) will propose on Friday, June 5, 2026, in the municipal council, its first adjustments to the 2026 budget. From 6 pm, the 39 elected officials will discuss, among other things, the modifications to be made to the budget roadmap adopted on December 22 last, when Crescent Marault (Horizons) still wore the tricolor scarf. This deliberation will mark a first break with the previous mandate. The text provides for the suppression of an envelope of 250,000 euros earmarked for a feasibility study for a new hall at the Arquebuse. During his electoral campaign, Mathieu Debain defended the idea of a gourmet hall at the heart of the city center and the transformation of the Arquebuse market into an underground parking lot. It is therefore logical to see him suspend this project, estimated at over eight million euros by his predecessors. Another renunciation concerns the Saint-Germain abbey. The previous municipality wanted to buy several buildings, including the former gendarmerie, next to the abbey. The ensemble threatens to be hit by a state of peril. It belongs to the departmental council and is no longer used. The City was to acquire it for 350,000 euros but Mathieu Debain has cancelled the sale in the weeks following his election. 'We will not go as far as the team before wanted', he said on May 11 last, in our columns, during the presentation of the Saint-Germain abbey season.
